CBN Launches Second Regulatory Sandbox Cohort for Innovators

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has initiated the second cohort of its Regulatory Sandbox Programme, inviting applications from innovators, financial institutions, Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), fintechs, and technology companies. The programme aims to support responsible innovation in Nigeria’s financial sector through two dedicated testing tracks: the Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) Track and the Data-Enabled Financial Services (Non-VASP) Track.

The VASP Track focuses on solutions involving virtual assets, stablecoins, and related financial infrastructure, while the Non-VASP Track targets innovations that enhance financial inclusion and operational efficiency. According to Mrs. Hakama Sidi-Ali, Ag.

Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations Department, the sandbox allows controlled testing of financial products under CBN supervision. Applications for Cohort 2 will be accepted from August 12, 2026, to August 31, 2026, via the CBN Regulatory Sandbox Portal.

The CBN emphasizes that participation does not equate to a license to operate outside agreed testing parameters.
