CCC Warns of Insecurity and AI Disinformation Ahead of 2027

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has expressed alarm over the rising insecurity and the impact of artificial intelligence-driven disinformation in Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. In a report presented in Abuja on Tuesday, CCC Chairman Chri Olukolad noted a significant deterioration in the country's security environment during the second quarter of 2026, despite operational gains by the armed forces.

The report highlighted persistent terrorist attacks, mass kidnappings, violent banditry, and clashes between farmers and herders. It warned of an unprecedented wave of fake news and misinformation that could undermine public trust in state institutions and threaten ongoing security operations.

The CCC urged the federal government and security agencies to enhance their strategies, particularly in responding to kidnappings, and called for a collaborative effort among political leaders, civil society, and the media to combat misinformation and promote national unity.
