CHAN 2024: Super Eagles B bow out with 2-0 win over Congo

Nigeria's Super Eagles B concluded their CHAN 2024 campaign on a positive note with a 2-0 victory over Congo's Red Devils. Despite the win, Nigeria's three points were not enough to secure progression, as Sudan topped the group.

Remo Stars forward Sikiru Alimi was instrumental in the victory, scoring the opener and sealing the win in stoppage time. Anas Yusuf also contributed by breaking the deadlock in the 56th minute.

The Congo team suffered a late blow when Atipo was sent off for a reckless challenge on Alimi. The teenage goalkeeper, Ebenezer Harcourt, had a calm senior debut and Nigeria finally registered their first goal and point in the tournament.

The focus now shifts back to domestic action with the Nigeria Premier Football League season set to kick off this weekend. Head coach Eric Chelle will now turn his attention to the Nigeria 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, with key fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa in September.
