CHAN: Nigeria’s poor outing fuels doubts on Chelle’s capacity to secure World Cup ticket

Nigeria's disappointing performance in the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has raised concerns about coach Eric Chelle's ability to secure a World Cup ticket for the country. The Nigeria Super Eagles B team, under Chelle's management, is set to play their final group game against Congo.

Despite hopes for a better result, the team has already lost their first two matches to Senegal and Sudan. With attention turning towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, doubts have been cast on Chelle's coaching tactics and the performance of the team.

Concerns have also been raised about the struggles of Nigeria's domestic league players in African competitions. Football development expert Ibrahim Lawal criticized the Nigeria Football Federation for appointing Chelle, suggesting that a local coach should have been chosen instead.
