Chelsea Signs Morgan Rogers for Record £117 Million

Chelsea FC has reached an agreement to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record fee of £117 million. The 23-year-old midfielder will put pen to paper on a six-year contract, with Chelsea holding an option to extend for an additional season.

This transfer fee sets a new benchmark as the largest ever paid for an English player, surpassing the previous record of £116 million paid by Manchester City for Elliot Anderson. The deal was finalized ahead of the London medical scheduled for Monday, as Rogers prepares to commit to the England national team for the ongoing 2026 World Cup.

The £117 million fee also eclipses Chelsea's previous record of £107 million spent on Argentina's Enzo Fernandez in 2023. Unai Emery, the current coach of Aston Villa, had seen Rogers blossom last season, contributing to the team's Europa League triumph with 21 goals in 85 league appearances.
