Chelsea Block England-Born Striker From Switching Allegiance to Nigeria Ahead of World Cup

Chelsea has blocked England-born striker Chizaram "Chizzy" Ezenwata from switching his allegiance to Nigeria ahead of the World Cup. The teenager, who is on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was expected to join the Nigeria U20 training camp but Chelsea refused to release him due to scheduling and regulatory factors.

Despite being described as an exciting prospect and a proven finisher, Ezenwata's immediate participation in the World Cup preparations with the Flying Eagles has been sidelined. While the door remains open for him to represent Nigeria in the future, Chelsea's decision has frustrated both Ezenwata and Nigerian fans.

However, FIFA regulations prevent Nigeria from formally calling him up outside of the international window, keeping an eye on his progress in London. Ezenwata is eligible to represent England, Nigeria, or Cameroon, but his commitment to Nigeria seems strong as he has visited the Super Eagles camp and is awaiting an official invite from head coach Eric Chelle.
