Chidimma Adetshina Fights Deportation in South Africa Court

Chidimma Adetshina, a 25-year-old former Miss Universe Nigeria, is fighting against her deportation from South Africa after the Cape Town Regional Court, presided over by Magistrate Reema Khorana, postponed a ruling on her case until August 19. Adetshina was arrested in June for allegedly returning to South Africa despite being declared a prohibited person.

The South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs claims she is an undocumented foreign national and requested her detention during ongoing deportation proceedings. Despite efforts for an out-of-court settlement, no agreement was reached.

Adetshina's legal team contends that she was born in South Africa and has minimal ties to Nigeria, arguing that the Department of Home Affairs invalidated her documents without a fair investigation. They also stated that the citizenship dispute is currently before the High Court.

Adetshina gained public attention after competing in the Miss South Africa competition in 2024 and later winning the title of Miss Universe Nigeria, where she represented Nigeria at the 2024 Miss Universe competition, finishing as first runner-up.
