Ike Ibe Advocates for Child Abuse Awareness in Owerri

Ibe, a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, emphasized the need to treat child abuse as a significant social and human rights issue rather than a private family matter. Speaking at a human capacity-building program organized by the Stand For Humanity Foundation in Owerri, Ibe, who holds a Ph.D. in Law from American University, Washington, DC, called for societal recognition of child abuse as a violation of human rights that necessitates legal, social, and institutional intervention.

He advocated for the establishment of child-friendly police units to facilitate reporting and protection for children, highlighting the importance of specialized training for investigators in child psychology and trauma. Ibe stated that effective investigations into child-related crimes require an understanding of children's psychology and development.

Chidiebube Okeoma, president of the Stand For Humanity Foundation, praised Ibe's contributions, noting the value of his legal expertise in enhancing the program's impact and reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to addressing human rights challenges.
