Women Affairs Minister Warns Against Sharing Abuse Videos

On September 13, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development issued a warning to Nigerians against downloading, reposting, or circulating videos depicting child abuse. This warning was prompted by reports of the brutal abuse of a 12-year-old boy, Master Ugonna Uzoma, in Aba, Abia State, and another case in Onitsha, Anambra State, where a mother allegedly abused her daughters.

The Ministry, through its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ahmed Lawan Danbazau, stated that sharing such videos exacerbates the trauma for victims and violates their rights. It urged the public to report suspected abuse to law enforcement and child protection authorities instead of making abusive content viral.

The Ministry commended the Nigeria Police Force and relevant state ministries for their swift actions in arresting the alleged perpetrators and placing the children in protective care. It reiterated that parental authority should not infringe upon a child's dignity and rights, referencing the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
