Child Protection Network Reports 36 Cases of Abuse

The Child Protection Network Nigeria disclosed that it received at least 36 cases of child abuse, including physical abuse, neglect, child trafficking, sexual abuse, and illegal adoption, over a few months. National Coordinator Olakunle Sanni made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja during a press briefing regarding the state of Nigerian children.

He emphasized the urgent need for national action to enhance child protection and safeguard vulnerable children. Sanni noted that the reported cases reflect broader challenges such as sexual abuse, trafficking, abduction, physical violence, neglect, poverty, and inadequate healthcare.

He acknowledged government interventions but stated that millions of children remain at risk. Sanni condemned the culture of silence surrounding child abuse and called for stronger enforcement of child-protection laws, faster investigations, and increased support for survivors.

He also highlighted the threats of child trafficking and abduction, particularly from schools, urging the government to improve border protection and community participation in safeguarding children.
