Cholera Outbreak in Plateau State Claims Five Lives

A cholera outbreak in Plateau State has led to five confirmed deaths and 11 confirmed cases, alongside 53 suspected cases, as reported by Dr. Nichola Baamlong, the Plateau State Commissioner for Health.

The outbreak is primarily affecting the Mangu Local Government Area, specifically in the Pushit Mangu 1 and Mangu 2 communities. In response, the Plateau State Ministry of Health is intensifying public health interventions to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.

Measures include deploying additional rapid response teams, establishing treatment centers, and procuring essential medical supplies such as rapid diagnostic test kits and intravenous fluids. Dr.

Baamlong emphasized the importance of safe drinking water, proper hand hygiene, and waste disposal to prevent cholera transmission. Residents are urged to report suspected cases to healthcare facilities promptly.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and called for support from development partners and stakeholders in ongoing response efforts.
