Christian Elders Urge Tinubu to Reject Preaching Ban

The Christian Elders Forum, led by Chairman Sundai Oib, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject a proposed bill that seeks to criminalize peaceful religious preaching in public transport. The forum described the bill as unconstitutional and capable of undermining religious freedom and national unity.

They emphasized that the proposed law could increase religious tensions and create divisions within the country, warning that it infringes on citizens' fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution. The forum stated that preaching the gospel is a central obligation of the Christian faith, mandated by Jesus Christ, and should not be restricted by human legislation.

They affirmed that Christians should be able to carry out their religious activities peacefully without coercion. The forum also urged the National Assembly to review and amend the bill to protect the rights of citizens while maintaining public safety and harmony among Nigeria's diverse religious communities.
