Christian Media Forum Condemns Shariah Council's Call for INEC Chairman's Removal

The Christian Media Forum has expressed concern over the Supreme Council of Shariah in Nigeria's demand for the removal of INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan Basi, labeling it baseless and divisive. The Forum, led by Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson and Andrew Ibrahim Mshelia, emphasized the importance of assessing public officials based on competence rather than religious or ethnic affiliations.

The Supreme Council of Shariah reportedly questioned the legitimacy of INEC's leadership under Professor Basi, alleging integrity issues. The Christian Media Forum strongly disagreed with this stance, warning that such statements could erode public confidence in democratic institutions and fuel religious tensions.

They called for religious and civic leaders to exercise restraint and work towards national unity and peace, focusing on addressing Nigeria's pressing challenges like insecurity and economic hardship.
