U.S. Congressman: Christians in Nigeria Face Severe Violence

U.S. Congressman Moor highlighted that Christians in Nigeria face a significantly higher risk of violence, being five times more likely to be killed than individuals from other religious groups.

He urged Washington to implement firmer measures to engage with Abuja to confront the worsening insecurity in Nigeria. Moor described the violence as disproportionately affecting Christians, who are frequent targets of attacks attributed to the Fulani militia, labeled as a terrorist group.

He commended former U.S. President Donald Trump for his willingness to defend Christians globally and emphasized the need for the current administration to demonstrate stronger political will.

Moor proposed a bilateral agreement between Washington and Abuja to address security challenges, including co-funding humanitarian assistance, prioritizing Christian communities, and implementing early warning systems to detect impending attacks. He also called for the disarmament of the Fulani militia and suggested that American authorities consider sanctions against individuals involved in violence against Christians.
