CJN Calls for Judicial Resource Management Reforms

During a workshop on managing judicial financial resources held in Abuja, Justice Kudirat Keker Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, advocated for stronger reforms in judicial resource management to enhance justice delivery and safeguard judicial independence. She represented the National Judicial Institute (NJI) and stressed the importance of robust monitoring and oversight mechanisms to ensure efficient and transparent use of judicial resources.

Justice Keker Ekun warned that poor administration contributes to case backlogs and undermines institutional independence. She drew attention to global trends, noting that courts in the Global South are modernizing operations despite limited resources by adopting digital innovations such as electronic filing systems and automated case management tools.

She pointed out Nigeria's ongoing efforts to digitize its judiciary, including the implementation of the Nigerian Case Management System (NCM) mandated by the Supreme Court for 2026. Justice Keker Ekun described sound financial management as a cornerstone of effective justice administration, emphasizing that public trust in the judiciary depends on transparency and accountability.
