Team Nigeria Aims for More Medals at Glasgow 2026

Team Nigeria is poised to enhance its medal count on Day 8 of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, following a successful start that included a historic gold medal for Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and a bronze for Tobi Amusan. Currently, Nigeria has secured eight gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, totaling 16.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) expresses optimism for continued success as athletes compete in various track and field events. Key competitors include Ezekiel Nathaniel in the men’s 400 metres hurdles final, who has established himself as a top contender in Africa.

Additionally, Samuel Ogazi and Edidiong Udo will compete in the men’s 400 metres final, while Ella Onojuvwevwo represents Nigeria in the women’s 400 metres final. Udodi Onwuzurike will also compete in the men’s 200 metres final.

The performances of these athletes are expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria's standing on the medals table.
