Ezekiel Nathaniel Wins Gold in 400m Hurdles at Glasgow

Ezekiel Nathaniel secured the gold medal in the men’s 400m hurdles at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday, achieving a time of 48.47 seconds. He outpaced England’s Jake Minshull, who earned silver with a time of 48.99 seconds, and Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson, who took bronze in 49.22 seconds.

This victory marked Team Nigeria's ninth gold medal at the Games, showcasing the country's growing prowess in various sports. Nathaniel entered the final as the fastest overall qualifier after winning Heat Two in 48.69 seconds.

The 23-year-old holds the Nigerian record of 47.86 seconds and has consistently performed well, reaching the semi-finals at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He broke the Nigerian record while at Baylor University in Texas in 2022 and became the school’s first national champion in the event, winning the 2025 NCAA Outdoor title with a personal best of 47.49 seconds.
