COMPASS Celebrates Five Years of Safe Migration in Nigeria

COMPASS marked its fifth anniversary in Abuja, focusing on safe migration and the protection of migrant rights in Nigeria. Sharon Dimanch, Chief Mission of IOM Nigeria, emphasized the importance of providing safe and legal migration pathways while protecting the dignity of migrants.

She highlighted the stories of trafficking survivors who have rebuilt their lives with psychosocial support and livelihood assistance. Over the past five years, COMPASS has strengthened Nigeria's migration governance, improving policies and institutional coordination.

Approximately 900 vulnerable migrants have received reintegration support, including healthcare and psychosocial services. Bernard M.

Doro, Nigeria's Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Alleviation, described the anniversary as a celebration of transformed lives and strengthened partnerships. He warned that irregular migration continues to expose young Nigerians to trafficking and exploitation.

The event also featured support from Bengt van Loosdrecht of the Kingdom of Netherlands, reaffirming commitment to protect vulnerable migrants and combat human trafficking.
