Voter Apathy Raises Concerns in FCT, Rivers, Kano Elections

Concerns regarding voter apathy have been raised in the recent elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers, and Kano. Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of CISLAC, and the Chairman of TMG, highlighted that the low voter turnout poses a significant challenge to democracy, with reports indicating participation rates below 20% in some areas, including a shocking 7-8% in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described the turnout as disgracefully low and called for opposition parties to unite. The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw the APC winning five chairmanship seats in the FCT area council elections.

Notably, the results revealed that the APC's Prof. Andrew Abu Maikalangu was re-elected as the AMAC chairman with 40,295 votes.

Additionally, the EFCC arrested no fewer than 20 poll agents during the elections for alleged involvement in electoral fraud.
