Rivers State Elections See Low Voter Turnout

The elections in Rivers State, particularly in Ahoada East and Khana constituencies, were marked by low voter turnout, mirroring trends observed in the Federal Capital Territory and Kano. Voting commenced early at 8 AM, with reports indicating that polling units in Ahoada East, such as Lueku Ward 3, saw minimal voter participation by 1:30 PM.

In Ula Apata community, voting began around 10 AM, but attendance remained sparse. Despite movement restrictions, daily activities continued in the area, which remained calm throughout the day.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recorded that elections were conducted across six registration areas in Ahoada East and eight in Khana, totaling 242 polling units. The total number of registered voters was 112,950, with Ahoada East having 71,865 and Khana 41,085.

Earlier reports indicated a low voter turnout during the elections held on Saturday.
