Chinda Defects to APC, Resigns as Minority Leader

On Tuesday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbass announced Kingsley Chinda's defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his resignation as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives. Chinda's defection letter was read by the Speaker, indicating that the change would take effect on April 23, 2026.

Following this announcement, Chinda is expected to face a lawsuit claiming that his defection from the PDP to the APC did not follow due process. The House of Representatives is anticipated to elect a new Minority Leader in light of Chinda's resignation.

Chinda has already emerged as the governorship candidate for the APC in Rivers State.
