Speaker Abbas Asked to Confirm Chinda's APC Defection

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been asked to produce evidence regarding Kingsley Chinda's defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his resignation as Minority Leader. This request was made by the Incorporated Trustees Association of Legislative Draft Advocacy Practitioners, who filed a lawsuit in the Abuja Federal High Court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing Chinda as a governorship candidate for the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The lawsuit argues that Chinda's defection does not comply with the provisions of Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The request for evidence was made during a plenary session on May 26, 2027, and included a letter signed by Jess William Amuga, the Administrative Secretary of the association.

The lawsuit also claims that Chinda has already resigned from his position as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, which is contested by the plaintiffs.
