Congo Football Federation Faces Crisis Over FIFA Fund Misuse

The crisis within the Congolese Football Federation has intensified following allegations of financial misconduct against its president, Jean Gui Blais Mayola. He is accused of misappropriating $1 million intended for football development projects, which were reportedly provided by FIFA to support infrastructure and grassroots programs in the Republic of Congo.

An investigative report has revealed a network of shell companies in the U.S. that allegedly diverted these funds. The situation escalated on Friday when the Ministry of Sport in the Republic of Congo filed a formal complaint, prompting law enforcement authorities to launch a criminal investigation.

As part of this probe, the federation's Secretary General, Badji Mombo, and its treasurer, Mr. Kanda, have been arrested.

This development has raised serious concerns regarding the financial accountability within the federation and has created uncertainty around its leadership, potentially leading to disciplinary actions from national authorities.
