Nigerian National Assembly to Transmit Final Constitution Amendment Draft by Year-End

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment, Barau, revealed that the National Assembly will send the final draft of the constitution amendment before the end of the year. The committee has concluded major deliberations and is set to finalize outstanding matters, including proposals for new states and local governments.

The process involves engaging state legislatures for approval, with at least 24 state assemblies required for the amendments to take effect. The aim is to align issues discussed during nationwide public hearings and zonal consultations.

Barau emphasized the importance of stakeholder commitment to meet the year-end deadline for the transmission to state houses of assembly.
