Council of State Approves Aminu Yusuf as NPC Chairman, Pardons 175 Inmates

The Council of State in Nigeria has endorsed the appointment of Dr. Aminu Yusuf from Niger State as the new Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC).

The decision to approve the appointment and grant presidential pardons to 175 inmates was made during a meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The Council's decision followed the recommendation of President Bola Tinubu.

Notable attendees included former Presidents Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar. Additionally, the Council considered reports from the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, with a total of 82 inmates receiving presidential pardons and 65 having their sentences reduced.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, presented the recommendations on behalf of the President.
