Nigerian Government Fails to Produce Court Order in Zaria Cleric's Detention Legal Battle

In a legal development, the Federal Government of Nigeria faced challenges in producing a court order related to the detention of a Zaria cleric. Justic Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to produce the purported order based on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

The cleric's counsel, O. Odom, emphasized the importance of upholding the detainee's fundamental rights.

The detainee, associated with the Fityanul Islam Tijanniyya sect, is reportedly linked to recent coup allegations. The cleric's ordeal includes a mention of a N2 million gift wired to a bank account.

The case involves interactions with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Jaiz Bank PLC.
