Army Witness Denies Torture in Coup Plot Trial

The trial regarding an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu is taking place at the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik. On Tuesday, an army witness, Major General Moham Gana, testified that none of the suspects were denied access to legal representation or informed of their right to remain silent during interrogations.

The defense, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, objected to the admission of video records of the suspects' statements, claiming they were obtained under duress. Gana maintained that the suspects were calm throughout the interrogation process and that the video records showed no signs of intimidation or coercion.

Retired Naval Captain Erasmus Victor corroborated this, stating that his statement was made voluntarily. The court acknowledged that the statements did not bear endorsements from legal practitioners.

The trial is set to continue on May 13, with six suspects facing prosecution by the Federal Government for allegedly plotting to topple Tinubu's administration.
