Court Adjourns EFCC Case on Timipre Sylva's Properties

On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) forfeiture case concerning nine properties linked to Timipre Sylva, the former Governor of Bayelsa State, until July 16. Justice Obiora Egwuatu presided over the case, where EFCC counsel Oluwalek Atolagb indicated that the commission had not filed a compliance report related to an interim order granted on April 24.

This order involved the interim forfeiture of the nine properties, which were alleged to be linked to Sylva. The court directed that the EFCC publish a notice in two national newspapers within seven days of receiving a certified true copy of the order, allowing interested parties 14 days to show cause why final forfeiture should not be granted.

Various lawyers appeared for different interested parties, with properties listed including a duplex penthouse office complex in Maitama and an eight-bedroom flat in Wuse II. The EFCC confirmed that six parties had filed affidavits to show cause, while no interest was expressed in several other properties listed.
