El-Rufai's Trial Adjourned; Next Hearing Set for 2026

The Federal High Court in Kaduna adjourned the trial of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai due to the absence of two co-defendants. The case, overseen by Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, relates to allegations of corruption and financial impropriety during El-Rufai's administration from 2015 to 2023.

El-Rufai appeared in court at 9:30 AM, accompanied by officials from the anti-graft agency and the Nigeria Police Force. The prosecution alleges that public funds released for projects were either not executed or handled irregularly during his tenure.

El-Rufai has denied the allegations, asserting that all actions taken during his administration complied with the law. The trial, which has attracted significant public attention due to El-Rufai's influential political role, is set to resume on June 24, 2026, when further arguments regarding pending motions will be heard.
