Court Declares Rochas Okorocha APC Candidate for Imo West

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State, to cease presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027. The court found that Uzodinma did not win the May 18 primary election, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Instead, the judge ruled that former Governor Rochas Okorocha won the majority of votes and should be recognized as the APC candidate. Okorocha had filed a lawsuit against INEC, APC, and Uzodinma after his name was replaced with Uzodinma's.
The court dismissed the defendants' claims that Okorocha's case was statute barred and confirmed that he filed within the legal timeframe. The judge also stated that the documents presented by the defendants claiming Uzodinma's victory were fabricated, and described their actions as an afterthought.
