Trial Begins for Man Accused of Planning School Attacks

The Federal High Court in Abuja began the trial of John Jude Agbo, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly planning attacks on schools in Abuja. Michael Jeggo, a DSS operative, testified that the agency received a petition regarding threats to three schools in Abuja, with messages sent from specific phone numbers.

Agbo was arraigned on March 17, 2024, facing two counts under the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022 and the Cybercrime Prohibition Prevention Act of 2024. The prosecution presented evidence, including a Techno Android phone and a compact disc containing audio-visual records of Agbo's statements.

Defense lawyer Hamza Dantani cross-examined Jeggo, questioning the evidence's relevance. The trial was adjourned to May 12, 2024, to allow the prosecution to present additional witnesses and exhibits.
