Court Acquits Ex-Ikeja NBA Treasurer of N20.1m Fraud

On a recent ruling, Justice Mojisola Dada of a special offences court in Ikeja discharged and acquitted Kappo Aderinola, the former treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, of allegations involving N20.1 million fraud. Aderinola faced 30 counts of conspiracy, money laundering, and theft alongside two former chairmen of the NBA Ikeja Branch, Adesina Ogunlana and Yinka Farounbi.

The prosecution alleged that Aderinola and Farounbi, who were signatories to the branch's bank account, signed cheques without proper authorization, while Ogunlana withdrew funds during his tenure as chairman from 2014 to 2016, with Aderinola serving as treasurer during that period. Aderinola was first arraigned on May 22, 2019, and after years of legal battles, the court found insufficient evidence to convict him.
