NBA Ikeja Ex-Treasurer Acquitted in N20.1m Fraud Case

On Thursday, Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, acquitted Kappo Aderinola, the former treasurer of the NBA Ikeja, in a high-profile N20.1 million fraud case. Aderinola faced 30 counts, including conspiracy, money laundering, and theft, alongside two former chairmen of the NBA Ikeja, Adesina Ogunlana and the late Yinka Farounbi.

The trial commenced on May 22, 2019, with allegations that Aderinola and Farounbi authorized signatories to the branch's account to issue cheques without proper approval, allowing Ogunlana to withdraw N20.1 million. Aderinola served as treasurer during Farounbi's chairmanship from 2014 to 2016, while Ogunlana led the branch from 2016 to 2018.

The prosecution failed to prove the case against Aderinola beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to his formal discharge and acquittal. The legal team welcomed the decision, emphasizing Aderinola's integrity during his years of service.

The trial for Ogunlana and Farounbi continues, with the court yet to deliver a judgment on their charges.
