Court to Hear PDP Nomination Challenge on April 14, 2026

The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has set a date for April 14, 2026, to hear a suit challenging the nomination of candidates from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming local government elections. The suit was initiated by three aggrieved members of the PDP, including Enyi Uchechukwu, Wisdom Kalio, and Uch Amadi.

They are contesting whether the state executive committee led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, whose emergence was nullified by a prior court judgment, has the legal authority to submit a list of candidates to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for the recently concluded local government elections. The claimants are also seeking a judicial clarification on the validity of the PDP's candidate nominations for the local government council polls scheduled for August 30, 2025.

The court proceedings were adjourned to allow the PDP's counsel additional time to respond to the legal application, with Justice Stephen Jumbo presiding over the matter.
