Court Sentences Drug Kingpin and Ex-Footballer to Jail

On 24 July 2026, Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu to 22 years imprisonment and Hunkarin Segun George to 2 years for their roles in cocaine importation. Chinedu was convicted for unlawfully importing 7.050 kilogrammes of cocaine, while Hunkarin was found guilty of conspiracy.

The case originated in September 2015 when Chinedu was arraigned for importing 6.250 kilogrammes of cocaine but absconded after being granted bail. He was re-arrested on 24 June 2025 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to smuggle 800 grammes of cocaine from Ethiopia.

Hunkarin, a former professional footballer, was arrested in the airport car park as he allegedly awaited the drug consignment. Both men faced charges under case number FHC/L/669C/2025.

Prosecutor Adekunle Adebajo urged for strict penalties due to Chinedu's bail jumping, while defense counsels sought leniency. The NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), praised the judiciary's commitment to drug trafficking justice.
