Court Sentences Two to 40 Years for Counterfeit Alcohol

On December 3, 2025, a Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, aged 58, and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu, aged 28, to a total of 40 years in prison for multiple counts related to the production, possession, sale, and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic beverages. Justice Allagoa presided over the case, which stemmed from enforcement operations that uncovered a large quantity of counterfeit drinks at Vespa Market on Kojo Street, Ijanikin.

The seized products included fake versions of popular international brands such as Hennessy VSOP, Hennessy Special, Jameson Irish Whiskey, William Lawson's Blend Scotch Whisky, and Gordon's Dry Gin. The court's decision underscores the severity of the offense, which poses a significant threat to public safety.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and urged the public to report suspicious products to combat the illicit trade.
