Businesswoman Sentenced for Cannabis Export Attempt

Jumoke Akinusi, a businesswoman, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos for unlawfully attempting to export 1.10 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa to Cape Verde. The verdict was delivered after Akinusi pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of drug trafficking presented by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The prosecutor, Cyril Osaigbovo, informed the court that Akinusi committed the offence on August 14, 2026, by exporting the illegal substance through the National Handling Company Export Shed, which is a customs-controlled area located at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
