Rivers Assembly Defies Court Order in Impeachment Process of Deputy Governor

The Rivers State House of Assembly has disregarded a state high court order to halt the impeachment process of Deputy Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhul, and the Clerk of the House, sent a letter to the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, stating that the court does not have the authority to interfere in the impeachment process as per Section 188(10) of the Nigerian Constitution.

The Assembly spokesperson, Enemi Georg, emphasized that the court order was not recognized, asserting that the court has no jurisdiction to intervene in the impeachment proceedings.
