Rivers Assembly Dismisses Court Order on Impeachment Process

The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected an interim court order from the Rivers State High Court that sought to halt the ongoing impeachment process against the deputy governor, Ngozi Odu. The Assembly argued that the court lacked constitutional jurisdiction to intervene in impeachment matters.

The court order was issued following two separate lawsuits filed against the impeachment process. Speaker Martin Amaewhule directed the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate alleged misconduct by the governor and deputy.

The Assembly spokesperson emphasized that they were not aware of the court order and maintained that the judiciary has no role in the impeachment process.
