Court Ruling May Trigger APC Exodus, Says ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) responded positively to a recent ruling by a Federal High Court that voided certain provisions of the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) guidelines for the 2027 elections. The ADC, through its national public secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the judgment vindicated their earlier objections to the electoral body's guidelines, which they claimed imposed restrictive timelines on party primaries and membership registration.

The court ruled that the INEC exceeded its powers by shortening timelines, which contradicted the provisions of the Electoral Act. The ADC believes this ruling strengthens the freedom of association and allows politicians to seek alternative platforms for contesting elections.

Abdullahi expressed optimism that the ruling would deepen democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections and predicted a mass exodus from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of the decision.
