ADC Demands INEC Chairman's Resignation After Court Ruling

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has escalated its call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling.

This ruling reaffirmed the legitimacy of the ADC's leadership structure, which is headed by David Mark, a former Senate President. The party's statement, issued by its National Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasized that the court's decision should resolve disputes surrounding the leadership structure and highlight flaws in previous actions taken by INEC.

The ADC argues that the circumstances surrounding the leadership dispute raise serious concerns about the neutrality and integrity of the electoral body. The party has pledged to continue advocating for credible political alternatives and improving security and job creation in Nigeria.

Abdullahi noted that the judgment reinforces democratic principles and the rule of law, while cautioning that it should not be viewed as the end of challenges faced by opposition parties in Nigeria's political landscape.
