Court Adjourns Accord Party Presidential Ticket Suit

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has scheduled a substantive hearing for July 15, 2026, regarding a suit filed by Dr. Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, a chieftain of the Accord Party.

Hashim seeks a court order to compel the party to recognize him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and to forward his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The adjournment followed INEC's late entry into the dispute, prompting Hashim's legal team, led by Henri Akunebu SAN, to request additional time to study the new court processes.

The court, presided over by Justice Moham Umar, granted this request. Hashim's suit claims that the Accord Party's failure to upload his name to INEC's nomination portal, despite being the sole winner of the May 30 primary, violates the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC's guidelines.

He is seeking a declaration that the party's refusal to submit his name constitutes a breach of the law and is requesting the court to order a fresh presidential primary.
