Court to Deliver Judgment in Lawsuit Challenging Tinubu's State of Emergency Declaration

The Federal High Court in Abuja is scheduled to deliver judgment on a legal challenge brought by the Civil Society Observatory for Constitutional Compliance (CSOCLC) against President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a state of emergency in River State. The lawsuit questions the President's authority to remove elected state officials during a state of emergency.

The plaintiff's counsel, Nnamdi Nwokocha Ahaaiw, and the defense lawyer presented arguments, with the defense arguing that the 1962 Act cited by the plaintiff is outdated. The case involves the appointment of a retired Vice Admiral, Ibok Et Ekw Iba, to govern River State outside constitutional provisions.
