Court Moves El-Rufai's Rights Case to FCT Chief Judge

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) court has transferred the fundamental rights case of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor, to the Chief Judge. El-Rufai was detained on February 16, 2026, after voluntarily reporting to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was later transferred to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on February 18.

His case has sparked widespread reactions, particularly from Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the director of the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC), who has called for the anti-graft agencies to charge El-Rufai in court.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has also been involved, with the court being informed that they failed to produce El-Rufai as required. The court has adjourned the matter until April 23, 2025, for further hearings regarding the bail application and the ongoing case against him.
