NBA Condemns Sowore for Courtroom Press Briefing Attempt

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) issued a statement condemning Omoyele Sowore for attempting to conduct a press briefing within a courtroom, which led to a heated exchange with senior advocate Musibau Adetunbi. The incident occurred on a Tuesday when Sowore attempted to address journalists inside the court premises.

Adetunbi objected, citing established courtroom procedures, while Sowore argued that he was not violating any rules as the judge had not yet taken the bench. The disagreement escalated into a tense standoff, prompting court officials to intervene and urge restraint.

The NBA, led by President Afam Osigwe, expressed grave concern over the incident, stressing that courtrooms should be solemn spaces dedicated to justice and should not be used for media engagements. The association warned that such actions undermine the dignity of the court and constitute a serious affront to the rule of law.

They reaffirmed their support for legal practitioners in maintaining professional standards during court proceedings.
