EFCC's Olukoyede Calls for Anti-Corruption Messages from Clerics

On September 23, 2026, Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), addressed religious leaders at the second Council Meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja. He emphasized the importance of preaching moral integrity and anti-corruption messages to their followers.

During his presentation, he discussed the theme “Shared Sacred Flourishing in Nigeria,” highlighting that the wellbeing of Nigerians relies on individual actions against corruption. He stated that corruption undermines communal wealth and urged religious leaders to restore moral dignity through their teachings.

Olukoyede noted that the EFCC has been engaging with Christian and Muslim leaders to create an Inter-Faith Manual that outlines doctrinal positions on corruption. He reiterated that financial crimes do not discriminate by religion or ethnicity, stating, “financial crime has no religion.” The launch of the Anti-Corruption Interfaith Manual aims to assist religious leaders in delivering anti-corruption messages effectively.
