NIREC Calls on Faith Leaders to Promote Peace in Nigeria

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) convened its second meeting in Abuja under the theme “Shared Sacred Flourishing in Nigeria,” urging Christian and Muslim leaders to leverage their influence for peace and national development amid Nigeria's security and socio-economic challenges. Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, emphasized the need for interfaith cooperation to address issues such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment while promoting shared values like love and justice.

Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), highlighted the importance of harnessing religious diversity to combat financial crime and promote accountability. He introduced the EFCC Inter-Faith Manual to assist religious leaders in communicating anti-corruption messages.

Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appreciation for NIREC's commitment to peace and urged faith leaders to prevent political activities from exacerbating religious divisions ahead of elections.
