NMA Lagos Faces Leadership Crisis with Secretary's Suspension

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Lagos chapter is experiencing a leadership crisis due to the suspension of its Secretary, Jimoh Hassan, along with several other members of the state executive committee. This action was described as a response to an unconstitutional gathering and was announced in a statement issued on Friday following an emergency state executive council meeting held on April 23.

The decision to suspend Hassan and others was linked to a dispute that arose during a meeting convened on April 18 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba. Chairman Saheed Kehinde stated that Hassan and others violated relevant provisions of the NMA Lagos state rules and regulations.

The council unanimously adopted this decision as part of efforts to preserve the integrity of the association and enforce internal discipline. Consequently, Olusola Soyinka Jnr was appointed to act as secretary immediately to fill the leadership gap, emphasizing the necessity of sanctions to uphold order and accountability within the association.
