Cross River Lawmakers Remove Local Govt Chairman Over Misconduct

The Cross River State House of Assembly has ousted Theresa Ushi, the Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Council, due to allegations of gross misconduct. The decision came after an investigation prompted by a petition from eight councilors accusing Ushi of corruption, abuse of office, and arbitrary suspension of colleagues.

The Assembly suspended Ushi for 90 days and directed the Vice Chairman, Egubung Odama, to oversee a full-scale inquiry. Speaker Elvert Ayambem affirmed the legislature's commitment to probity and good governance.
