Cross River State Aims for 30% Reduction in Maternal Deaths by 2028 with MAMII Initiative

The Cross River State government, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, has initiated the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) to significantly decrease maternal and newborn deaths by 30% by 2028. The program targets 172 local government areas in Nigeria to address the primary causes of maternal mortality, such as obstructed labor, hemorrhage, hypertension, unsafe abortion, and newborn deaths.

Jonah Offor emphasized the importance of strengthening the healthcare system to tackle these challenges. The initiative includes workshops to develop actionable strategies for improving healthcare infrastructure, human resources deployment, and emergency obstetric care.
